Weird to think about all these battles being waged between different algorithms. It really is information warfare at this point. The proliferation of generative AI bots and digital twins is only exacerbating the problem. Regular humans are going to be driven to more isolated corners of the web as a result.

Another fantastic post showing how bad actors are attempting to game the community notes system. Love the style of this report. Clean, concise well written. A+++

A truly fascinating subject. But as an old school trained broadcast journalist (UK) who was taught to question everything I investigate (even if I personally agreed with it), It could be argued that X's (Twitter's) community notes is inadequate and a step back in responsible communications. It relies on people correcting (if they've got their facts right), bold and globally inflammatory statements. These can cause devastating damage, division and unrest and endanger global mental well-being because of this bombardment of white noise creating confusion and stress for ordinary citizens trying to make sense of it all. Surely care should be taken BEFORE publication on social media channels, not afterwards when it's frankly too late. Is this progress? Is this really free speech or a wolf in sheep's clothing trying to cover emerging cracks in public and political trust as it attempts to justify this form of unregulated broadcast retrospectively? Let's reflect. Elected governments were quick to identify and then act on the dangers to societies identified when the new 'wireless' technology known as radio emerged in the 1920s. The broadcast media controls that resulted rarely stay perfect for long as society keeps evolving its values and then updates accordingly, but this considered approach pioneered in the UK still exists while coping with documented attacks by Elon Musk.

The newish broadcasters relying on unaccountable and failing algorithms as identified by people protecting child welfare for example, are narrowing editorial choice down to two main players in the West - namely Meta and Elon Musk's corporation. This must surely be a worry for the different societies and communities throughout the world being imposed upon by entities with no clear form of redress. The world is feeling stressed because of the noise being created without any protection for the everyday person confused by the noise. But the research is massively lacking into what is now emerging and it is desperately needed. The alternative at the moment could be a strange new world dictated by a wealthy privileged few, one of which is eroding systems of protection for no good reason. I predict that the re-boot of the currently wild-west social media platforms will see a more considered , consultative and considered approach, but not a public exercise led by the owners of the media, whether newer or established media, all of which are part of the conversation along with the people or the people they have chosen by electing them.
